Located on the Macleay River, Kempsey is a large and important rural centre. The Kempsey Shire is blessed with stunning beuty attracting many visitors and new residents alike. Kempsey is home to the famous Akubra Hat and is also the birth place of Slim Dusty.

The town's tourist information office and historical museum are located in the interesting Kempsey cultural centre, a building designed by the famous architect Glenn Murcutt. It is a distinctive Austalian building and is well worth stopping and inspecting. It is located in a shady and pleasant park at the southern end of town

We are situated on the River, and are a 10 minute walk via a paved footpath to the centre of Kempsey or 5 minutes to shopping. Enjoy fishing in the Macleay River from our jetty, or relax by the pool. We are only 40 minutes from Port Macquarie, or a short drive to excellent fishing, diving and surfing at South West Rocks, Crescent Head and Hat Head.

The river towns of Smithtown and Gladstone are the perfect place for visitors to relax and enjoy some country hospitality. Located on opposite sides of the Macleay River, the towns offer shady, well grassed parks with picnic facilites. The historic town of Gladstone is enjoyed by many for it's fine craft shops and beautifully restored historic buildings.

South West Rocks

The towns of Kempsey, Frederickton, Smithtown, Gladstone, Jerseyville, Fishermans Reach and others provide boat ramps. The river is also enjoyed for many water sports including canoeing. Fishing is another popular pass time along the river.
